Welcome to Week 3 of our January 2025 Challenges! This week, we’re focusing on starting meaningful conversations across generations. The best way to connect is through a simple conversation, and today, we’re encouraging you to engage with someone from a different generation by asking them to share a favourite memory or a story from their past.
By hearing stories, we learn not just about others but about ourselves and the world around us. Let's dive into these moments together!
Here are some simple ways to explore this week’s theme:
Start a Conversation
Find someone from a different generation and ask them to share a memorable story or moment from their past. It could be anything—from childhood memories to a significant life event.
Example: “I asked my neighbour about his childhood adventures, and he told me about how he built a treehouse with his friends. It was so inspiring!”
Share your story in the comments below!
Learn from Their Experiences
Ask open-ended questions about the person’s life experiences, hobbies, or even challenges they've overcome. These conversations can help deepen understanding and empathy between generations.
Example: “I’m curious to know how life has changed for my uncle, who grew up before the internet was a thing. It’ll be interesting to hear about how things were back then.”
Let us know what you learned from your conversation!
Start a Regular Chat
If you enjoyed this conversation, why not make it a regular part of your connections? You could set up weekly chats with a neighbour, family member, or friend. It’s a great way to strengthen relationships and keep the conversations flowing!
Example: “I’m going to make a point of calling my grandmother once a week to hear about her experiences. I think it’ll be a lovely way to stay connected.”
Let us know how you plan to keep the conversation going!
💬 How to Participate: To take part in this week’s challenge, share your stories and reflections in the comments below! Remember, engaging with others by commenting on their posts and sharing your thoughts helps keep the conversation going.

Recently I have realised that I’m fortunate enough to have made connections with people of different generations over the past few years. I really enjoy having coffee and chats with people who are older than me and am always wanting to know about life experiences they have had and are willing to share with me. Equally I embrace the times I am in the company of people younger (much younger in some cases) than me, and love hearing their perspectives on the world we live in currently and the kinds of connections they enjoy. How fortunate we are to be part of making these valuable connections across generations.
