March has been all about raising awareness—recognising where intergenerational connections exist, where they could grow, and the challenges that can stand in the way. Now, as we wrap up the month, it’s time to turn that awareness into action. Whether it’s reflecting on lessons from the past, having meaningful conversations, or making a personal pledge to strengthen connections, every step helps create a more connected and inclusive future. Let’s take what we’ve learned and keep the momentum going!
Activities for the Week:
✅ Write a Letter to Your Younger or Older Self: Looking back, what do you wish you had known at a certain age? Or, if you could hear from your future self, what wisdom would you hope to receive? Writing a letter to your younger or older self is a powerful way to reflect on personal growth, intergenerational lessons, and the value of connection.
Example: “If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be to spend more time listening to my grandparents’ stories. I didn’t realise how valuable their wisdom was until later.”
🔹 Take a moment to write your letter and share one key lesson you’ve learned.
✅ Challenge Someone to an Intergenerational Conversation: Conversations are the bridge that connect generations. This week, make a conscious effort to talk with someone from a different generation—it could be a relative, colleague, or community member. Ask about their experiences, perspectives, and lessons learned. You might be surprised by what you gain in return.
Example: “I had a chat with my neighbour, who’s 30 years older than me, about how workplace culture has evolved over the years. It gave me a whole new appreciation for the shifts we sometimes take for granted.”
🔹 Try this challenge and share what insights or new perspectives you discovered.
✅ Create an "Intergenerational Pledge: Small actions can make a big difference! Think of one concrete step you can take to encourage more intergenerational connection—whether in your workplace, family, or community. Your pledge can be something simple, like committing to regular check-ins with an older relative, or bigger, like advocating for more intergenerational initiatives in your organisation.
Example: “I pledge to start a workplace mentorship program that pairs younger and older employees for skill-sharing.”
🔹 Make your pledge and share it to inspire others to do the same!
💬 How to Participate: Let’s take action! Share your reflections and commitments in the comments.
